Creed Forum

Forum on OHRC Policy on Preventing Discrimination Based on Creed

A very successful forum on the newly released Ontario Human Rights Commission policy on Preventing Discrimination based on Creed was held on May 25, 2016.  In collaboration with the Toronto West LIP and Social Planning Toronto, the workshop was presented by OHRC.

This free three-hour event featured:

  • An overview of key issues in the new policy including:
    • forms of discrimination based on creed
    • duty to accommodate creed beliefs and practices
  • Interactive scenario-based learning drawing from legal cases

The event provided an opportunity for 30 residents and staff from community agencies in the Toronto West area to directly ask questions of OHRC and have a stimulating discussion about issues they face in their own lives and organisations.  Topics covered included the difference between religion and creed, systematic discrimination, duty to accommodate sincerely held beliefs and balancing competing rights

As a reference, OHRC provided participants with their 173 page book titled Policy on preventing discrimination based on Creed. It is available in various formats on request , and online:
